Winter Hill

Winter Hill is a prominent hill located in the West Pennine Moors. It’s a well-known landmark due to its height (1,496 feet), historical significance, and the presence of the Winter Hill TV mast.

Winter Hill has several points of historical interest including The Winter Hill Mass Trespass (1896) – a mass trespass took place here, an important event in the history of public access to the countryside. Winter Hill also has the Aircraft Crash Memorials. There are memorials for several aircraft crashes that have occurred on the hill, including a tragic crash in 1958 involving a BEA flight, which claimed 35 lives.
