The GM Walking Festival, a celebration of walking and wheeling in Greater Manchester, will be held again this May.
First held in 2015, and now officially part of National Walking Month, the festival creates an opportunity for everyone to celebrate the many benefits of walking and wheeling more as a fundamental part of daily life.
Each year, the festival’s organisers, GM Moving, works with partners, communities and local clubs and societies, to develop a programme of organised, accessible and free group walks in all parts of Greater Manchester
Anyone can host a walk, and GM Moving are now looking to hear from potential partners who have an idea for walking and wheeling activities for this year’s festival. In particular, they are interested in events which reflect this year’s festival theme – ‘Celebrating Connected Communities’ – which focuses on how walking can be used to bring people and local communities together.
Online submissions for proposed walking and wheeling events are now open on the GM Moving website, with an application deadline of Friday 3rd of April. To find out more about the 2026 festival, and to access the online submissions form, go here.
